Thank you for the comments. It seems strange, but the story of the Hartlepool monkey is actually TRUE. The good folk had never seen an 'exotic' animal before and thought it must be a Frenchman!

I knew the story about the monkey like everyone in the northeast--but didn't know there was song about it! Gave me a chuckle. My last experience of Hartlepool was the Tall ships--they were great but the facilities left a lot to be desired, Would have done better looking at the bird life!

Great little catchup on here Peppib.. and well done on the kingfisher .. couldnt spot it at all in that first pic ... what zoom is the Big gun? t's s that the new toy you have been wanting to test out?

Very disappointing day today. High Pennines and there was thick fog, gale force winds and horizontal rain. No birds :( Went for black grouse but none showing
