Thats usually the way!

A friend of mine was seawatching with his father somewhere on the east coast a few years ago and because all was fairly quiet they decided to go inland to search out grouse and whilst they were away a Little shearwater (absolutely mega rare bird) turned up at exactly the spot they had just left!

Just the sort of set of circumstances that would tempt you to throw your binoculars off the cliff!

Great captures PeppiB :clap3:

Are the Terns in photos 3 and 5 different birds? image 5 appears to have a dark tip to the bill whilst image 3 appears all red.

Yes Dave, they are different birds. There were hundreds of them - all too fast for me to focus on an individual so just focused on one spot and clicked when birds in that area.

Jan - that particular starling was just greedy! Day before I was there a couple of GSW were feeding. No signs yesterday :(

The bird in photo 5 then PeppiB is a Common Tern and i think can go on the challenge.

Haven't had time to check out the photos fully yet Dave, but yes I too think that is a common Tern. I think there are Arctic and Roseate ones in the mix as well. Have about 70 photos so will check them all out - eventually!

Natural Poolie - ah, the 'Poolie' is Hartlepool. Great place for birds, naff for humans! My 2 wives (no, not at the same time, first one died :( ) came from Hartlepool. The road up to the 'bus stop' hide where the terns are, yesterday had bags of dog poo hung on the fence posts. Great.

Been into Bat country today

This is view from Bat's lounge

And this is the humble stretch of water which, once it reaches Sunderland (excuse me whilst I wash out my mouth for using that word) is the mighty river Wear

Posted Image

Sadly no birds (that I could photograph anyway) around today. Did see a Jay, 3 very young red grouse and adjacent to the upper reahes of the Wear an oystercatcher

:wow: Fantastic photos PeppiB :clap2:

Stunning views ... and I love all the planting in your second photo, those borders are simply gorgeous (the plants are just the sort we need for our front garden, which is raised and on a slope, but I never know what they are).

:thanks1: for sharing those.
