:wow2: well done PeppiB....great photos and brilliant captures of the Short-eared owl :clap3:

The third photo of the owl is eligible for the challenge as i doubt anyone else will get photos of this elusive bird.

I've never seen a Short Eared owl in the wild either, so well done on capturing that.

I was wondering what the first and third bird in your first post is, and also the first one in your last post?

Brilliant PeppiB  Well done :yay: That is a lovely set of photos.

There are Short-eared Owls at Exminster marshes and a Long-eared Owl but I doubt I will get to see them let alone get a photo as my trips out are always around mid-day.

Marg - those birds are redshank and a muscovy duck cross

Dave - will try and get a better shot when I am well enough to go back. Yesterday there were 5 short eared owls, Tuesday 12 put in an appearance! There is a particular field which seems to be providing an abundance of voles at the moment. Yesterday I was one of 12 birders looking for the shrike without success. It was in the same area.

Shots in tree were taken against light so were little more than shadows, so photoshop required. Also hand held with 600 mm lens as I was alone and couldn't manage to carry tripod

Judy - these fellows get up around noon!

Think this one is a lesser BBG (shorter neck)

and an amazing 36 RB Mergansers, all very very distant

knot and rn plover

and finally for now, our old friend the med gull

There are 2 glaucus gulls around at them moment but were beyond my walking range the other day

I think I should say I will never get to see something more often :cwl: I saw and got a photo of the Long-eared today  but no sign of the Shorties.

If you can't get a closer shot PeppiB than the photo in post 407 will be fine.
