Thanks guys. Knew the redshank - he is a regular on that bit of river (there are 3 of them at different parts) Suspected knot but have never seen them anywhere except at coast (they are certainly new to that stretch of the Tyne.) There were hundreds of them in different flocks. There were also several flocks of lapwing but this doddery pensioner couldn't get a sharp enough image :(
