allThat cormorant was very very distant and is a huge crop. I didn't notice the white 'in the field' When I first saw the photo I thought 'is it a little pied cormorant escaped from somewhere' (Australasian bird) but the bill on this one is too long so it just must be a partial leucistic character Pleased I was out this morning as it has been an horrendous storm since just after lunch and the winds are still lashing the rain against the windows |

Partially leucistic Cormorants can be more common than other species but the amount of white pigment can vary dramatically. |

![]() Jen - the Dwight D Eienhower is from the USA When I was a kid I saw Mallard at the head of the 'Flying Scotsman' service as it stopped in Darlington, also saw Sir Nigel Gresley there. I have actually been on a train pulled by the Nigel Gresley and have often seen it at its home at North Yorks Moors Railway. Been to York several times where Mallard lives in the National railway Museum. I haven't seen the overseas visitors or Bittern before. It is just that class of engine I like the styling of, although Locomotion, the first ever engine to haul passengers, is housed at Darlington Railway museum and is great to see. There is a replica of Locomotion in steam at Beamish open air museum near Chester le Street |
