Brilliant photos PeppiB, especially considering the crowds there.

Roger would have loved to have seen those, he was a very keen fan of steam engines.

Thanks for sharing.

Super photos PeppiB - I love seeing the old steam engines. A shame that there were so many people but good to see so much interest in them.

I can thoroughly recommend the National Railway Museum in York if ever any of you are up that way - we went when the children were young, expecting to spend about an hour or so there and ended up spending most of the day there

:thanx: Marg, Julie, HH, Grayling

These locomotives were at NRM York last July and have been touring the country since. NRM (Locomotion) Shildon is a second site for the museum housing overflow exhibits from York. The Shildon display was the last before the locos go back to their respective homes.

Great to see those old steam engines PeppiB, especially those of the Mallard. :clap3:

We visited the National Train Museum at York many years ago and was fascinated by the array of locomotives, The Flying Scotsman, Duchess Of Hamilton and Mallard in particular.

Yes Dave, the Duchess of Hamilton is really impressive. Interesting it had to be fitted with a bell when it went across the Atlantic. If you look at the photo of the Dominion of Canada it has a bell fitted. Usually I spend a full day in York.

The Shildon branch of the museum on the other hand can be viewed in very short time as it houses less interesting stuff, although it does have the original Sans Pareil the Timothy Hackworth entry into the Rainham trials (won by Rocket) The Sans Pareil was a better, faster machine but on the day the boiler broke - a casting fault. Now then, who made the boiler? Oh yes, some chap called Stephenson.

The original High Speed tilting train is also at Shildon, but that is about it.

It is a work of art and such a streamlined look with wonderful lines and curves...would have looked to have seen that on an open track at full tilt!

Thanks for the other info as well PeppiB.

In the week those engines were at Locomotion they were expecting 75,000 visitors. Figures released yesterday show they actually got 124,000. No wonder it was busy!

During classic car shows there they get about 300 visitors.Big difference

Blimey! :thud:

Steam engines are admired by almost everyone I think. Mind you some people who worked with them couldn't wait to get on the nice new electric trains because they were cleaner and less hard work so I saw on one TV programme!

HH - while we were eating our bacon butties, at the next table were 2 pensioners wearing British Rail engine drivers caps. You could see the tears in their eyes being reunited with their former rides

An amazing 10 months since I last put anything on here - where does the time go?

Sadly someone fell/jumped from Tyne bridge a few weeks ago so this fella came out

Posted Image

Opened the balcony door for a better shot

Sadly I don't think they have found him yet.

During the summer I was having a cuppa and a scone over the river at a park in Gateshead and was being harassed by this chap

Posted Image

That photo was taken with an 18mm lens. He was so close I couldn't get all of him in

Couple of geese, and a magpie

Nothing too exciting I'm afraid. Will try and get out more!
