Tabatha - you should check Thamesmead again as all 4 of these had gone when I came back downstream half an hour later

Thanks William - find it difficult to hold camera still nowadays so there is always shake on the photos. Nowadays I can only hand hold a 200mm lens instead of the 600mm one I used to use. :pic:

Just the one today, shot yesterday from about 50 yards and heavily cropped. Surprisingly sharp for me

Thanks AnnB, Jane and Tabatha

Too cold to go along the river this afternoon. This morning, looking upstream, the river was shrouded in fog with just the tops of the Millennium and Tyne bridges showing. Suppose I should have been 'Sitting in a sleazy snackbar sucking sickly sausage rolls'
(Fog on the Tyne, by Lindisfarne for those thinking I had flipped completely)

Not been able to get any living type birds recently but whilst out a coupe of sarurdays ago managed these. Considering they were flying at 38,000 and 35,000 feet (according to an app on my phone) they are remarkably clear.
One is the Frankfurt to Atlanta flight, the other Frankfurt to Philadelphia. They must have taken off about 5 minutes apart

There is an app called Flightradar24. It shows every flight airbourne in the world. Tap on a plane and it tells you where it is going from and to, take off time, current and future duration in the air and ETA, speed and height. Click on 'cockpit view' and it brings up google maps showing the view from the plane. It is possible to track the flight in real time of any aircraft anywhere, although military aircraft are shown without any details. I spend hours, particularly on my tablet with the larger screen, looking at it (I don't get out much!) and IF I know son is on a flight I can track him from take off to landing.

Jen - that was a mere 200mm lens, cropped on laptop. I have now purchased an old Nikon D100 body so I can resume use of my 600mm lens.

FMN - we have had one of those skies again today

Nice captures at that height PeppiB.

I was trying to work out the airline/aircraft type and i am torn between a couple but they look a little like THY A340, i did think Virgin but the cowlings on those aircraft are red and not white as on yours.
