Queen Elizabeth II Metro bridge in foreground, King Edward VII bridge behind with a Virgin train heading south away from civilisation

Away from the quay, I trundled up to Leazes park - took ages in the small chair. Nothing out of the ordinary though

and a final shot of this young chap on the river. The huge numbers of waders normally present on the mudflats at low tide just aren't there this year so struggling for anything of real interest

Dave - I posted the ID's of the aircraft on chat some time ago (got my threads muddled as to where you asked the question!)

Jen - as soon as I approached the lake I was surrounded by swans looking for food. I didn't have any with me and they seemed to be looking at me as an alternative! I moved away as quickly as I could.
Jane - no idea where they all are. I have seen 4 curlew and 4 heron. Nothing at all in the way of redshank, lapwing, knott or even snipe. Very strange along there without those fellows. The mudflats just look so bare

thanks Jan, and Tabatha yes it is a good app to track any plane/helicopter. Around you there are so many it makes it very difficult to click on the correct aircraft (I found that when we passed through London on the way to Bruge a couple of years ago)

Scoot - I have only lived in the Toon for 10 years - I am a native of Co Durham with spells working in the Lake District in the 1960's and East Midlands for a lot of the 70's

NP - thanks. They are not the most exciting subjects though!

PeppiB - even the mundane can be beautiful. Look closely at a Starling, look closely at the Tyne Bridge! Perfect in its design, perfect in its engineering, makes it beautiful mate.

Thanks PeppiB, i'll look back on chat. We have used that Flight Radar recently and we tracked my dad's flight to Mumbai, via Dubai recently. They flew out on one of those Emirates A380's and they said that it was an incredible aircraft.

Cracking shots as well and lovely image of the Mute swan.

Thanks Dave, Lizzie and Acey

FYH - I lived on the edge of Mansfield overlooking a resevoir I have forgotten the name of. My office at the factory was on top of a culvert carrying a river (sorry, can't remember the name of that either) but it formed the border of 2 counties so half my office was in Derbyshire and half in Nottinghamshire. Son was born in Kingsmill (I think - or is that bread?) hospital- can't remember whether that was Sutton or Kirby in Ashfield. It has been a long time!
