Blowing the dust off this thread, decimated thanks to PB, but at least I still have all the missing photos should they ever be required.

Short trundle this afternoon

Low tide. This is the mouth of the Ouseburn where it joins the Tyne. A family of otters live around here

And this really p's me off. If someone is drowning it won't be any use to anyone. 5 lifebelt stations in a row had been 'vacated'

Lovely photos PeppiB it would be great if you ever get a sighting of the any of the otters.

It would serve those vandals right if one of them ever needed to be rescued and there was no lifebelt for them :gaah:

Thank you all. The photos were just taken on my iPhone. Went for cameras when we went to see Bat on Wednesday - and both of them were dead as doornails. Batteries were recharged when I came home.

 peppi , pretty soon now we'll be returning to the old types .. the batteries lasted for months even years . I know we only took 24 photos at a time but you had to make sure it was going to be a reasonable one ....
luckily i kept my Brownie 127 ;) Posted Image

I do have to admit that a lot of wildlife pics benefit from a digital camera though ..... with fast moving creatures you often need a multi sequence shot :yep:

Jen - my professional career started with my using a plate camera. You had to be sure of composition and exposure before pressing the shutter. No use for wild life though. My NiCad batteries last a while between charges

Jan - the otters tend to be active dawn and dusk. I sometimes see them from the flat, but too distant for photos

Dave - I never tire of living beside the river - always something different to see

Couldn't resist the blue skies and sunshine. I was going to venture into the wilds of Gateshead, but cunningly they raised the bridge so I trundled to the Ouseburn again.
First photo show the Pilot cutter, which had been up river on a jaunt, with the Millennium Bridge open in the background

Posted Image

And here we have an interloper, the Pride of the Tyne, otherwise known as the Shields Ferry, plying its trade across the mouth of the Tyne between North and South Shields, making a trip up river

Posted Image

Actually quite a few passengers

The Ouseburn river

Posted Image

Photo 1 (above) shows the Tyne Bar, and Photo 2 the Free Trade Inn. The green hill between them was the site of a pitched battle earlier in the summer, so has now been fenced off to prevent access

Posted Image

And here we have the Fortuna, based on the quay, returning from its lunchtime cruise to the sea

Posted Image

and finally a general shot of the area where the 2 rivers meet, frequently seen in the TV show Vera (currently filming a new series in the area)

Posted Image

Looking very different years ago, this area also featured in the opening credits of The Likely Lads.
The riverside flats at the right front is where I lived when I moved to Newcastle, very far end, first floor flat. The current peppi towers can just be seen peaking above this end of those flats

Rare sight this afternoon along the quay - a Common Gull - only not so common nowadays

Photo from phone, very heavily cropped so not a good standard

 i agree with living next to a river ( with it's traffic ) or a Loch or the sea , any water is wonderful to live beside .. so long as it's not about to raise it's levels :run:

They're super photos of the area and the apartments are in a prime position :cool3:

Do you see the rusty sculpture ? is it one of hundreds around the country marking cycle paths ?
