Whilst sitting on one of the bird hides just up from the caravan park we stayed on I read that Barn Owls had been listed in the sighting book most days I had never seen a Barn Owl in the wild so we made it our mission to see one and have a go at getting a photo. The first couple of nights sitting in the hide were eventful! The first night I was sat in the hide on my own (dave outside having a cig break ) and I was looking across the fields through the binoculars .... as i moved the binoculars away from my face what do I see ... Barn Owl 10" away from my face!! he was heading straight in to the hide well stupidly I panicked not expecting to have an owls beak almost touching my forehead and jumped back which made the owl turn away and fly across the field but I think that is the best view of a Barn Owl I am ever likely to get! Anyway after a couple of nights we realised they were merely passing through the field the hide looked over adn getting a photo was impossible .... so we managed to track down the field they (2) were hunting in and every night after that we got to see the 2 barn owls hunting ... the only problem that we faced then was the light disappearing so quickly this time of year taking photos wasn't easy ![]() So these are not the greatest barn Owl photos but I was just so thrilled to get at least a half decent shot of them in the wild. for looking ![]() |
