Whilst sitting on one of the bird hides just up from the caravan park we stayed on I read that Barn Owls had been listed in the sighting book most days :yay: :yay: I had never seen a Barn Owl in the wild so we made it our mission to see one and have a go at getting a photo.
The first couple of nights sitting in the hide were eventful! The first night I was sat in the hide on my own (dave outside having a cig break :giggle: ) and I was looking across the fields through the binoculars .... as i moved the binoculars away from my face what do I see ... Barn Owl 10" away from my face!! he was heading straight in to the hide :scream: well stupidly I panicked not expecting to have an owls beak almost touching my forehead :giggle: and jumped back which made the owl turn away and fly across the field :( :( but I think that is the best view of a Barn Owl I am ever likely to get! :yay:

Anyway after a couple of nights we realised they were merely passing through the field the hide looked over adn getting a photo was impossible .... so we managed to track down the field they (2) were hunting in :yay: and every night after that we got to see the 2 barn owls hunting ... the only problem that we faced then was the light disappearing so quickly this time of year taking photos wasn't easy :(

So these are not the greatest barn Owl photos but I was just so thrilled to get at least a half decent shot of them in the wild.

Great shots of the Jay. I'm very envious. I've never got close enough to one of these for a good photo like yours. Well done.

Trust me to step outside of the hide thirty seconds before all that went off!...Julie's face was a picture when i did step back in :giggle: shock was not the word!

Fantastic photos Julie, and considering the light conditions, the images have come out really well :clap3:

This is one place we will be returning to in May and hopefully the adults will be very active feeding young.

They are excellent Julie :clap3:

I love photos of Little Egrets walking as they invariably have that "Yuck ... what have I just trodden in" look about them :giggle:
