Latest News Coo arrives in England - 29 Apr 2016 A signal received from Coo's tag early this morning showed that he had travelled a further 260 miles from his last location in France. He has now crossed the channel and is near Battle in East Sussex. The next map update should show us whether he is hanging around in East Sussex or pushing straight on back to the North York Moors. Peckham back in Yorkshire - 29 Apr 2016 In the last 24 hours Peckham has completed the last leg of his spring migration – travelling the final 170 miles from Gloucestershire to the Yorkshire Dales. He is now back at his breeding grounds, just east of Kendal and on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. In 2015 he started his autumn migration on 30th June, so we expect him to stay at his current location for the next two months. Vigilamus hit by the cold - 28 Apr 2016 A poor quality location recieved from Vigilamus's tag on 23 April showed that he had made it back to Britain and was in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. However, it seems that he didn't stay there long. A very poor location from his tag on 25 April, so poor that it won't show on the map, suggests that he has moved north and is in fact back on the North York Moors. We are concerned about him as there have been several heavy snow showers on the moors with lying snow for short periods of time. The battery charge on his tag is good and we should have received more good quality locations from the tag, but haven't. We have our fingers crossed that he hasn't succumbed to the cold, only time will tell. |

The Cuckoos are already on the return journey and more have been tagged this year, lets hope they have safe journeys Latest News Peckham is on his way - 27 Jun 2016 At 6pm on 21 June, Peckham was still at his tagging site close to Kendal, Cumbria but by breakfast on 22 June he had flown 173km (107 miles) south and east and was just north of Lincoln, but he didn't stay here long, by mid-afternoon on 24 June he was even further south and east and was in Norfolk just west of Great Yarmouth. Larry's incredible migration - 27 Jun 2016 On the evening of 21 June, Larry was still in Lancashire close to his tagging site but when we next heard from his tag during the early hours of 24 June, not only had he left Lancashire but he had departed the UK and crossed a large part of Europe. In just over 30 hours he had travelled 1,526km (971 miles). He is currently in Hungary just south of a small village called Narai and close to the border with Austria. Unnamed Cuckoo 161322 - 23 Jun 2016 Cuckoo 161322 is the only Cuckoo to be tagged in the Norfolk Broads in 2016. He was caught and tagged at Hardley Flood, Norfolk, on 11 June and has been in the area ever since. His last location on 22 June placed him 2km (1.3 miles) to the north of Hardley Flood and in the area of Cantley Marshes. |

It is hard to believe that they have travelled so far away already . Latest News Larry has crossed the desert - 11 Aug 2016 Larry has successfully crossed the Sahara and is currently in southern Chad, close to the Manda National Park. 161324 moves on - 11 Aug 2016 Since successfully crossing the Sahara and arriving safely in Mali, 161324 has moved south and east into Burkina Faso and is currently 82km (51 miles) north and east of the capital Ouagadougou. Cuckoo 161322 not hanging around - 11 Aug 2016 After spending two days on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains, 161322 headed south across the Alboran Sea and into Morocco. After a brief stop in the High Atlas he continued south and west and is currently in Western Sahara, following in the footsteps of Cuckoo 161323 who successfully crossed the desert via this route a week ago https://www.bto.org/science/migration/tracking-studies/cuckoo-tracking |

The Cuckoos are on the move again heading back our way ,not too long before they start to arrive back in the UK. Not looking good for Markoo though. Latest News We have lost Markoo - 07 Mar 2017 We haven't heard from Markoo since the January 13. This is not too unusual as we often 'lose' Cuckoos for lengthy periods of time when they move into thick tree cover. However, the last bits of data we received from Markoo's tag suggest that he has almost certainly perished. The temperature of the tag had dropped and begun cycling with day and night temperature and was not as stable as it would be on a live bird. Victor heading east - 07 Mar 2017 Having travelled north through Gabon and into Cameroon, Victor has turned east and is currently in Central African Republic. He is the most easterly tagged Cuckoo except for David, whose last tag transmissions were sent from his wintering location in Democratic Republic of Congo. There is 2,619km (1,627 miles) between Victor and our most westerly Cuckoo, Selborne. At some stage in the next week or so we would expect Victor to begin heading west. Selborne moves north - 07 Mar 2017 Selborne has moved north and east, leaving Guinea and crossing into Ivory Coast. He is currently in an area of forest just south west of Bako. https://www.bto.org/science/migration/tracking-studies/cuckoo-tracking |
