Great information Marge :)

I think I heard Selborne today - :yay:

I decided to head to Beaulieu again this morning, the latest sighting according to the BTO Tagging map.

Just slightly south of his latest location around Pig Bush, there is another Forestry Commission car park called Culverley. There are woodland areas next to it called Honey Hill and Little Honeyhill Wood.

At 10.10am I was in Little Honeyhill Wood when I heard a Cuckoo calling. I only heard it a couple of times and it was from the same location each time so I assume there was only one.
By virtue of Tagging location and assumption, it had to be Selborne.

Selborne arrives back in the UK - 17 Apr 2018
The first of our satellite tagged Cuckoos has successfully made it back to the UK! I've just noticed the latest position of Selborne, as per the Tagging map updated yesterday.

He's flying a lot further north this time. He's flown over Yew Tree Heath and crossed over Beaulieu River.

He has flown in a straight line from his last location near Pig Bush, without back-tracking. Where is he going :paul:

I suppose true love knows no bounds Jen :giggle:

I was all set to go rushing into Hawkhill Inclosure to greet him, then what does he do? - he scarpers in the opposite direction :rolleys:

It'll be interesting to see where he finally ends up. Has he forsaken his previous year's stomping ground to try pastures new, or will he return to familiar territory

Time will tell.

Latest News

Larry crossing the desert - 24 Apr 2018
Larry is on his way! Signals received on the 22 April show Larry in Algeria, mid-way through his desert crossing! He is the fourth of our tagged Cuckoo to cross the desert. Hopefully we will find out shortly if he has made it safely across.

Victor is back - 23 Apr 2018
In the early hours of Saturday morning, we received a location from Victor's tag that told us he had successfully made it back to his breeding site in King's Forest, Suffolk. Since his arrival he doesn't look to have been doing much resting, he has been ranging quite widely in the forest and the surrounding area. Presumably he is keen to find a female or two.

Thanks for the update Jan.

By all accounts a male cuckoo was heard and then a female heard bubbling at Coombe Hill the other day, so that's a good sign.

Hopefully we'll be getting some good weather with not very much wind, and when that happens I'll be off there. I've found that the cuckoos seem to settle far better when it's less windy and a lovely dry day.......that's got to happen again soon, surely!! :)

Good luck Laurie, hopefully patience will win the day.

The latest tagging information this morning for Selborne, (2 days old), was in a tree line half-a-mile west of Pig Bush Inclosure car park, Beaulieu.

I got there at 9am today and listened for a while, but neither heard nor saw any sign of him.

I'll put details of my visit there on my New Forest Laurie thread when I've sorted through the photos I took.
