The latest update shows Dudley is in Madrid so it shouldn't be long before he reaches the UK

Latest News
Dudley first to cross the Sahara desert! - 9 Apr 2015
It looks like Dudley's move to southern Mali on the morning of 6 April was indeed the start of his migration! Between then and around 10am on 8 April he flew 2360km (1470 miles) crossing Mali and Algeria to reach northern Morocco. He didn't stop there though and crossed over into southern Spain by late afternoon of the same day becoming the first of this year's tagged Cuckoos to return to Europe. Further low quality signals indicate he has continued north 330km (205 miles) and was south of Madrid just after midnight this morning.

Dudley in Mali - 7 Apr 2015
Dudley has moved north-west from his location in Ghana, travelling 550km (340 miles) and is now in Mali. Could this be the start of his migration?

Chris moves west at last - 31 Mar 2015
Chris is on the move! A good quality signal on 31 March placed Chris just inside the border of Ghana, showing that Chris had made his move west, albeit later than in previous years. Since the last transmission received on 21 March he has covered 1700km (1060 miles). We are glad to see he is once again on his way. This will be the fourth return journey over which we will have followed him - we wish him a safe return!

having my doubts about that Cuckoo now , after hearing a rather "distorted" Woodie in the background at the Loch of the Lowes....

Chris returns to breeding grounds again - 29 Apr 2015
Chris has returned to the area around the Norfolk/Suffolk border where he was first tagged in spring 2011 and has spent each subsequent summer.

Since leaving our shores in 2011, Chris has flown over, or visited, twenty-eight different countries, crossed the Sahara Desert eight times and reached speeds of up to 60mph.

Dr Chris Hewson, lead scientist on the project at the BTO, said, “Chris was one-year old when we fitted the satellite-tag, which makes him five-years old now, and quite an age for a Cuckoo; the oldest we have on record is almost seven. The tag was also given a life of two-to-three years, so that is getting quite old too. We had everything crossed for Chris to make it back again this year and give us another complete migration route, and he hasn’t let us down.

:thankyou: for posting the update on Chris Jan it amazing to read that he's visited/flown over 28 countries since he was tagged 5 years ago
I don't know if it would be possible to re tag him Jen  It would be a shame now after following him this long if his tag gives up :(

Latest News
Chester returns to the south of England - 12 May 2015
By the 11 May Chester had covered the 1500km (930 miles) from his last location in Spain and returned to his breeding grounds at Ashdown Forest in Sussex, becoming the ninth of our tagged Cuckoos to make it back to the UK.

No signals from Emsworthy - 6 May 2015
No further signals have been received from Emsworthy's tag since 19 March. He was still alive when we last heard from his tag - but the charge was very low. We may well here from it again after he's crossed the Sahara but it's possible the battery will have degraded too much for that to happen.

Fred crosses the desert - 5 May 2015
Fred is back on the map after a period of silence and has finally moved north from Ivory Coast and made his crossing of the Sahara desert. By the 2 May he had made suvvesfully completed it and made it to Morocco, to a location close to Marrakesh.

Its hard to believe that the Cuckoos are well on their way back to Africa!

Dudley is the first to Africa - 10 Jul 2015
Dudley is the first of our tagged Cuckoos to make it to Africa this year, transmitting from southern Algeria yesterday, on the evening of 9 July. He has travelled over 1870km (1160 miles) from his location in Spain on 3 July.

Last year the first Cuckoo in Africa was Meavy, transmitting on the very same date and followed a few days later by Dudley and Whortle who transmitted on the 12 July. In previous years the earliest transmission dates from Africa have been a bit later on13 July 2011, 16 July 2012 and 18 of July 2013.

Dudley in Spain - 30 Jun 2015
Dudley is leading the way south and is currently our most southerly Cuckoo. He is in northern Spain, just northeast of Cantaviejo. He arrived here in the early hours of 27 June.

Three more Cuckoos in France - 25 Jun 2015
Nine Cuckoos (plus Hennah whose tag has still not sent a good quality location) have now left the UK and seven of these (plus Hennah) are currently in France. The most recent three to have transmitted from France are new Welsh Cuckoo 146760, and Sherwood Cuckoos Jake and Dudley. Jake is currently in Burgundy, while 146760 is further south in the Auvergne region and Dudley is even further south in Toulouse.

It's interesting to note that Dudley left about a week later this year compared to 2014 while Jake left two weeks earlier.
