Little Owl (Athene noctua). Increasingly common and well established since it's introduction in 1842. I took this just outside our village and have seen them in several locations nearby.

Ever since I created this it has been quite divisive. Probably my best selling image and the one that most people react to first. Often the viewer tells me they really like it and then, when I explain it is a composite, sometimes they lose interest.
However, if I had painted this image, I suspect nobody would question it's integrity, so I guess this is an argument re the relationship between photography and art.

Little Ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius). A bird that always brings the archaic word dapper to my mind.

Long Tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus). A real treat to see, often in a family group for warmth and protection.

:wow1: More fabulous photos Tim I love the 2 shots of the Owls and I look at the 'moon' shot as a piece of art  You'd be doing well to get a shot like that without a bit of editing :giggle:

Brilliant captures Tim :clap3:

Love both the Little owl shots and for different reasons. The manufactured shot works very well, the association of owl and moon is iconic.

Thanks Dave. They are a stunningly lovely bird and the colours are really iridescent when viewed closely.

This is not a brilliant photo as it is a severe crop in, but I like the fact that the Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus) is coming straight towards the camera.

And this one shows the lovely patterning of the wing.

This Mandarin(Aix galericulata), taken a couple of years ago, seems to be a regular visitor to Shearwater on the Longleat Estate. It spends much of it's time trying to blend in with the Mallards and hybrid ducks but never seems to be accepted. I think it probably makes them feel a bit underdressed!

Just caught up with this thread Tim ... superb photos :clap3: and I also like the owl/moon composite. I don't have a problem with anything like that as long as the person is up front about it being a "manufactured" image.

Back on the Chiff Chaff/Warbler debate ... I shall never forget being told this (true) story by a friend who attended a ringing session:- The ringer firmly i.d.-d the bird in his hand as a Willow Warbler and duly explained to the watchers the reasons for his conclusion. As he released the bird it flew away merrily calling "chiff chaff, chiff chaff".
