Nuthatch (Sitta europaea). A lovely bird to have visiting your garden.

Red Kite (Milvus milvus). What a great success story for species reintroduction. An example of what can be achieved by those who do care. It is just a shame that they were persecuted so fiercely in the first place. And even more of a shame that they still are by a few ignorant self serving individuals.

Whilst we were in Florida this Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) obligingly perched in a tree nearby before delivering this fish to it's female on the nest.

The Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) may not be a native bird and may be a controversial introduced species, but it really is an outstandingly colourful addition to our countryside. I can't quite see the thrill of shooting such a beautiful creature, but I suppose if others didn't, it wouldn't be here!

I make no excuses for posting a number of images of Puffins (Fratercula arctica). It is such a charismatic bird and dashing in it's breeding plumage with it's colourful beak and legs. I hoe to get back to the Farne Islands again soon to get some more.

Thanks everyone for looking and comments.

Paula - The Puffins are great fun to watch and pretty obliging for photos, unless they are being harried by gulls trying to steal their catch, in which case they disappear into their burrows instantly.

A pair of Mandarin (Aix galericulata). I have only seen the colourful drakes before but the female is quite pretty and resembles the American Wood Duck (aix sponsa) in a way.
