this has to be one of my best wildlife moments ...i was sitting outside my friends' place on Mull on Monday night . i was listening to the noises of the woods at the back of their house . i could hear herons, geese, and deer but i was really hoping for the tawny owls ,i'd heard last time . after a few calls , i turned 'round and spotted the shape of an owl sitting on a clothes pole only about 10 yards from me . it was perfectly back lit from the clouds reflecting the moonlight . i sat still for about 10 minutes just watching as it surveyed the long grass below it . i only wish i'd had my camera to record it ....i did remember to take my hip-flask , so it wasn't a complete waste of sighting ! :ha: :bag:

here's the clothes pole in daylight...amazing how the owl could spot and perch on it in almost complete darkness
