The object of these flowers is still to attract pollinators, even if it is late here. Many of our plants hail from the Continent which is warm longer than we are. Along with your beautiful flowers, have you noticed that there are also a fair few bees, hoverflies & wasps, to name a few? Jean |

We still have the odd hoverfly attracted to the Viburnum Jean, mostly Eristalis tenax which can be seen in any month of the year, but also the odd Eristalis pertinax which can also be seen into late November and in some years early December. |

I've seen a bumblebee and other insects around the Mahonia in my garden. Nasturtiums in flower in Guildford in the churchyard the other day and a lovely Hebe - long purple flowers still doing well at WWT Arundel earlier this week. |

The Mahonia is the variety "Charity" and is brilliant for insects, definitely recommend it. Also Hebe, I used to have one with large pink, fading to white flowers and the insects loved it. I've had a look on google and think it might have been variety "Great Orme". LINK Sadly I cut it back and it didn't recover |
