Thank you, Eric. I cheated and was able to drive quite close to it, using the vehicle as a hide.

My parents and I were looking for spotting challenge points in their front garden today when my Dad spotted this little Coal Tit. We weren't sure if something had happened to it initially, I was able to walk right up to it and photograph it with my compact camera on the macro setting but it must have just been asleep because it turned around sleepily, hopped a few feet and then flew away.

Thank you, yes it was really odd behaviour. As Jan says, it looked and acted very much like a fledgling.

Brilliant photos Ann and very unusual behaviour. It's definitely an adult as fledglings have a buff-yellow patch on the face, must have just woken up maybe as you said Ann.
