Well, I wasn't expecting to see one of these today (I think it's a Fulvous Whistling Duck). I imagine it's an escapee but no leg ring and not pinioned.

Great shots Ann.

I agree with the id. More than likely an escapee and a lovely looking duck.

Thank you, yes it was posing rather nicely.

Another great sighting today, my first ever Short-eared Owl. Not the greatest photos I'm afraid but seeing as it's a "first" for me I thought I'd post them here.

Wow! Ann .. fancy coming across a short-eared owl . I can imagine how you felt as you were fumbling for the camera and the on switch :circles: ... :ha: super photos ... and also of the duck :cool1: I do hope that it'll be ok out in the wild :(

Thank you all. Yes, you got that right Jen - even though I knew a Short-eared Owl had been seen in the area I wasn't really expecting to see it within five minutes of getting to the site (especially considering I'd been there a couple of times previously and not seen it).

I hope the duck will be ok too, it could fly so hopefully it will find somewhere it likes.
