Great photos and brilliant sightings Grayling :clap3:

Not many places in the UK with both Bittern and Great White Egret on show!

Thank you very much Jan, Dave and Jen :thankyou:

Jen, I was intrigued by all the coloured rings and they do mean something. It would appear that this Great White Egret has been returning to Blashford for about 9 years now!!!!!! Unless I've mis-understood. Why All the Coloured Rings and this as well which is mainly about a coloured ringed cormorant but mentions the Great White Egret as well GWE Frequent Visitor to Blashford

Posted Image it certainly seems a good reason , Grayling ... but there are many and very near to the leg joint : (

Anyway ... i'm sure they know what they're doing and that it's safe ....Posted Image

It can depend a great deal on each particular bird and species, some birds are more prone to being ringed more often than others. I have seen a Bearded Tit with four rings which leaves very little of the tarsi or leg part showing at all. Thanks for the links Grayling and it is very interesting to read where the GWE has been frequenting on it's journeys.

Thank you all for your interest and comments and for that extra info Dave :thankyou:

I wonder why only one GSW seems to make its' way here, especially as the much ringed cormorant originates from the same lake in France - they both must know something the others don't :girlygiggle:

I would say it was unusual, for what is basically a fairly scarce bird such as a Great White Egret, to return to exactly the same place on a regular basis....as you say Grayling, it must really like the place!

Thank you very much everybody :thankyou2:

We have a Song Thrush in the garden at the moment, it is quite shy though and it dosn't help that Blackbirds shoo it away.

Yesterday we had a male Chaffinch in the garden, something we don't normally get.
