What a lovely fluffy rear end, Grayling :o), a good candidate for the "Bum Shots" thread.

Thank you all very much for your lovely comments :thankyou:

I normally find them difficult to photograph as they are so active but this one was busy preening itself.

They are normally a very good candidate for bum shots Grayling so you did really well there.

We've just got back from Farlington Marshes near Portsmouth.

We saw not one, but two Short-eared Owls :circles:

The first one was pointed out to us which subsequently flew off. We spotted it many times as we walked round the route but then spotted another.

Here's a photo of one of them - I might have more later. :)

Many thanks Dave, Ann and Paula :thankyou:

Ann, I'm pleased with them  - they are good as I'm ever going to get - I could've done with my monopod though.

I tried to take some of them in flight but they didn't work too well.

Anyway, I think these are the last two worth showing.

This one was the first one which was pointed out to us when we asked what they were looking at. I'd never have seen it otherwise.

And this was the last we saw of them.

We'd been so busy watching the Owls we hadn't noticed the sky getting darker until it began to rain. We made it back to the car just before the heavens really opened and the rain bounced down for most of the journey home.
