I'm not sure how long the parental attachment is within this species Birdcake, but from what you say it does appear that this adult and fledgling are related. I doubt whether an adult Robin would tolerate another's brood member.

Lovely capture Paula.

We saw a fledgling House Sparrow today which is our first of the year.

I've only just started to see any fledglings in my garden. I noticed, and heard, at least 5 fledgling Starlings and one fledgling Sparrow this morning.

Great sightings everyone. :cool2:

No photos but my tree in the park where the Nuthatch were last year have had at least 3 fledglings and are flying about.

The only problem is they are like little darts and I cant even get video of them.

 Really awful news,i went on the garden today and saw my nesting box on the floor
I put it back knowing really that the babies would not survive the fall. The poor Blue tits kept taking
food in and coming back out with it,its heartbreaking to watch, they then kept looking on the ground
and going back peering into the nest  My grandson had a look and saw three of them just lay there.
So im going to take it down tomorrow and get a new one.I will put it in the same place and make it really
secure and hope that they will nest again..
Any advice would be really appreciated.

I'm so sorry to hear that Jean

I don't think it will nest again this year I'm sure Blue Tits only have one brood..

Good you've secured it  Do you think something knocked it down............ a predator perhaps trying to get to the chicks

Try not to get too down about it, although I know I'd be very sad too :(

:thankyou: Paula
I did wonder about something knocking it down as it was in a Holly tree,
and there was a few branches on the floor and as you know the Holly
is a strong tree.I didnt realise Blue tits only had one brood.I just wonder
if they get sad..

I think they must get confused Jean but I think it's us that get very emotional.................It's easy for us to think animals think and feel the same way we do. I know animals can grieve but it's such a fight for survival out there that they have to carry on as usual

I'm no expert but I have to look at it logically or I get very upset......... Having said that I got very worried about my Bee I've been looking after for the last 2 days

I think you have said it all Paula and it must be very confusing for the adults. A great shame Jean and always sad to read such things.

Suddenly the chicks have come out. Siskins have been seen on two seperate bird tables, this afternoon a young Starling.
Having said that, there are a lot of adult bird here i.e Blackbirds and Chaffinches that are carrying feed to young but they are all very late.

My Daughter has had a Blackbird Fledgling in her Garden will see if I still have the photo she sent me.

I have seen one Great tit in the garden, but its not one of mine as the adults were still feeding earlier in the week.
