I'm starting with yesterday in the rain a bird that I have been searching for, for years there had never been more of an opportunity than yesterday. Standing under a tree with my camera I saw an adult Grey Wagtail feeding her young, it was so wonderful I never noticed that it was raining. It was in the hills of North Wales, a small beautiful village, Beddgelert.![]() I don't know the name of this river but its near Porthmadoc, I will get to know its name. ![]() Red-brested Mergasers, they should young but as with thousands of other ducks, geese and waders they might be casualties of the terrible weather, floods that have wiped their nests out. A disaster in deed. |

Great pics Alice, a lot of our waterbirds have suffered this year it seems, the Coots and Moorhens especially in our local park, nearly every nest has been drowned out, luckily they had a cracking year last year, able to breed right up to November so as with all things nature it is all swings and roundabouts I'm afraid, things do balance out most of the time!

Brilliant photos Alice especially the Grey Wagtail photo, what a magical moment for you. ![]() My local reserve is still flooded from when we had the floods here at the beginning of May, mind you it is on a flood plane, but so different from this time last year when it was all very, very dry. All ground nesting birds lost their nests..Lapwings, Bitterns, Redshanks Oystercatchers, etc.... so sad, as it was all just recovering from the devastating floods in Gloucestershire back in 2007.

Alice. Love photos of the grey wagtails. I see them sometimes, but they do tend to move very quickly.Such a shame the floods have caused so much damage for the water birds. Hopefully nature will redress the balance. for posting
