:greatpics: Lovely photos Alice!

The Barn owl is beautiful and the siskins too. I like the stroppy redwing - you have captured it well bouncing up and down displaying

As I see it.
A solitary bird the Song Thrush, quietly searching for feed in large gardens, fields and parks. Its red listed. It suffered greatly with gardeners sprinkling slug pellets which for years destroyed their main food. They also eats worms and will turn to fruit. Times have slightly changed and Song Thrushes are back in gardening and a visit from this Thrush are often broken snail shells, a sure sign.
They are smaller than the Mistle Thrush, smaller spots, with a brown cap as per this photo.

Whilst watching a Song Thrush in my garden it didn't show any aggression, just waiting for a chance for getting anything to feed on. Often is sent packing by the Blackbirds.
Its an early breeder from March to September, its nest is a mud-lined cup nest in a low bush or tree. The eggs will be four to five dark spotted blue eggs.

Its worth throwing some feed, seed and crushed fat balls to the back of the flower borders, hidden amongst the shrubs there just might be a Song Thrush, waiting.

:wow: Beautiful portrait of a Song Thrush Alice. I agree they are a lovely bird. They remind me of my childhood. I use to listen out for the tell-tale sound of snail shells being bashed on the garden path. We used to get loads of Thrushes then.

:thankyou: Thank you Alice that was a wonderful portrait. I'm really missing mine, I've always had one but no sign this winter

I think lots of people want easy gardens. Trees and shrubs are really disappearing, making way for paving, decking and stones, they don't want the hassle of mowning the lawn and then you get the really tidy even clinical gardens and they're usually strewn with slug pellets :( It's a sad business

Lovely portrait Alice.
Thrushes are such pretty birds - but I don't think I've seen any since I was young. :(

Most of the Thrush family do not tolerate each other or members of the same species and they can be extremely aggressive towards each other.

Giving the dog a walk in my field, I thought at the same time that I would take the camera and wow what a surprise I had to find a Buzzard on one of the gate post. It had just landed and was extremley nervous.
I got up to about 10 feet before it took off.
