An update on the goose, apprently is an Light-bellied Brent Goose and they come over from NE Canada and Greenland. I got this information form the local BTO recorder. I lot of the geese overwinter in N. Ireland (Strangford Lough ) so it could have been ringed in Ireland.

The brent goose was ringed in SE Iceland on the 12th May 2009 ( my Dad's birthday, how weird is that) and the man who emailed me lives in Ireland writes that the geese this winter has flown from Dublin. This is the first information that he has had where some of the geese have gone. I'm dead chuffed.

One good thing at this time of year is that when water birds on on patches of ice/frozen water, it makes reading the rings so much easier.

All sorts of bird were along the paths and in the harbour, even though the road and noise from the town are a major factor, the birds still flock to the area.
We came across a Meadow Pipit on a cycle path and a fantastic Great crested Grebe in the harbour.
