Looking promising Alan :cool1:

I have a silver birch log nest box which the bluetits nested in last year and they have been showing an interest in it since November,i also bought a new one at WWT Welney last week which we put on the Alder tree on Monday and we were very surprised to see bluetits checking it out within 5 minutes of going in the house.

A good idea John :cool1:

Did anyone see the brick bird boxes on Countryfile last night, some of them were being used in new builds and are supposed to be especially good for Swifts who are in decline.

A link here with some brick boxes, quite expensive I would imagine though.

Good news, Alan and Jan. We have two nesting boxes but nobody is taking any interest this year. One year we got a wasps nest inside instead!

It is a brilliant idea Jan, maybe all new house builds should have them fitted as standard.

Thanks everyone, talking about swifts I remember when I was still living with my mum and dad we had a swifts nest in the gap between an air vent and the roof one year one of the birds got tangled in some string it was using as nesting and was hanging out side the nest making a right din so my dad got the ladder out and freed it,they used to come back every year but that so spooked them that they deserted the nest and never came back, funny how we missed them flying around in the evenings screeching,

Great story Alan and a shame that they never came back to nest.

We did have then flying up to thee eaves on our house and clinging onto the wall, i bet if we had had a nestbox in place, they would have used it.
