Lovely photos Dave - I've never seen a Ruddy Shelduck, nor have I head of them, is it a migrant?

I love the feather markings of the Pintail, your Smew looks like it might be swallowing that stone, I've seen that behaviour at Arundel.

Thanks everyone.

I thought it might be a snail/mollusc as well but i can't quite make it out. Ruddy Shelducks are found in the UK, most are escapees from wildfowl collections but occasionally, true wild birds do turn up from southern Europe.
