Paula is spot on Jane and it is the adults that have this purplish tinge to the feathering, especially in the right light. Mine was a juvenile so it isn't as obvious in it's feathers.
Thanks Dave, and Paula. I don't think there are many birds that have a purple tint to the feathers is there? So quite unusual I would think? :paul:

Not many Jane, nothing that i can recall other than some continental species.

They can be solitary at this time of year Jen but do congregate during the winter months.
