I'm not surprised they're making news - how exciting!!!

Have you had a chance to go and see them Ian?

Thank you for that link, it was very interesting to read about the previous breeding attempts here in the UK I thought they were just an occasional visitor :cool3:

That's fantastic news Ian....it's looking very hopeful that Bee-eaters will colonise the UK in the near future with this being the third site in the UK that has had this species breed.

They are a scarce migrant Jen but annual in reasonable numbers in the UK. They breed in a number of countries within a short distance, relatively speaking, including Belgium, France, Germany and Spain. Numbers have increased over the past few years in terms of UK sightings and allied with climate change, this species is finding suitable areas to breed in the UK. Very small steps at the moment but it is very encouraging news.

It is frustrating indeed. If the rain isn't too heavy it might still be worth a look, they might not be as mobile in rainy conditions and could make it easier to see them.

Dave & Paula it siled it down all day long yesterday

I will go Sunday, my camera is just one of those cheap digital things I think the zoom is 8 X

I have some binoculars in the car boot

The quarry is charging £2 to use its car park so they are cashing in (I cant really blame them) Border TV has reported a few times from there but they have had no luck in filming them, they have interviewed the serious twitchers and some have come up from Gloucestershire and even across from Northern Ireland.

I can imagine it being busy with birders on a good day Ian, one of the downfalls of a rare bird sighting.
