I was particularly interested in the grant awarded to the three nature reserves. The one in was really interested in Danny was Marton Mere. This was one of the places i used to visit regularly, up to four times a month, and was mainly due to the fact that all five British Owls could be seen here in a day...if you were lucky enough that is.

It has a reputation of being a very good spot for migant and rare breeding birds so this money will come in handy.

Sounds like a important place to protect.

It's an excellent site Danny and never appears to be swamped with people walking about so you can get most of the reserve to yourself, apart from the bridle path which runs along side the golf course.

It appears that Keith the seal has become a bit of a local celebrity Danny!

The two million pound grant that covers the area around Purbeck is such an important boost. Most of the heathland, which forms the specialised habitat that parts of Dorset are famous for, are teeming with rare breeding flora and fauna including all six species of British reptile.

Great news about our British butterflies Danny. I have been monitoring butterflies for many years and what we really need now is for another three of four good breeding years to increase populations of some of our rarer species. Lets hope the trend continues this year.
