Great news Danny.

Two former moth trapping colleagues, Colin Twist and Paul Hill, used to monitor this species in Delamere and was one of my former local regular places i used to visit.

Disgusting! how anybody could possibly accuse the RSPB of such a heinous crime is beyond me.

Great news regarding the Cirl Bunting Danny. Shame that just one county is the stronghold for this species but at least it is doing well with Devon's boundaries.

Such a shame that the BBC are planning to do such a thing Danny, odd really and even more so when you look at the endless reams of absolute tripe that the BBC do show which is non-wildlife related. It is a cheek that they still ask for a licence fee.

There is absolutely no need at all for an airport to be built on the Thames estuary....crazy idea and so much for the governments policies on reducing the carbon footprint!!

couldn't agree more Dave. that last link above was depressing stuff ...here's something more "uplifting " http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-28320168 :good:

That really would be something special John. I think people forget that we have two native eagle species in the UK and the White-tailed species tend to get all the headlines, which is fair and right but we should never forget that the Golden Eagle is equally as magnificent and deserves as much protection and help as it's larger cousin receives.

I have been lucky enough to see both eagle species in the UK, mainly in Scotland, but have also had the pleasure of watching both Golden Eagles (when there were two adults) at the Haweswater site in the Lake District....magnificent spot and one of my many birding highlights over the years. Have you managed to see either eagle species?

Thanks for the link John.

Hi Dave ,
when visiting friends on Mull , i went out early one Saturday morning and headed out eagle hunting . i drove from Pennyghael around the edge of Loch Scridain . i drove by the eagle viewing place , which was closed at that time of year . i was heading back home when i heard a buzzard , so i stopped and whilst searching for the bird , my eye caught the huge shape of a WTE flying along the tree line on the other side of the small glen . the bird flew out over the water and then upwards gaining height all the while . amazing stuff ! it was made better by the fact that as i was watching it , a wildlife safari van full of birders noticed me looking up. they all got out for a look .i then jumped into the car and as i drove back along the loch , i noticed the WTE again .... this time it was joined by two Goldies , wheeling high above together ...totally made my trip :clap4:

i returned to Mull again , seeing another two WTE s in the tall trees . sadly , i also met some locals that when i asked if they were looking for the eagles , one boiler suited , wellie wearing individual replied ..."aye , i'd like tae shoot them !" :notfair:

here's a "tick " i've still to get :bins: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-28315555

Agreed John.

The economic benefits generated by wildlife is there for all to see but maybe not everyone gains an 'actual' benefit, perhaps they should.

We spent a few days out of a two week wildlife trek around Scotland purely staking out a potential spot for Scottish Wildcat but failed miserably.....still....we did have Pine Marten, Otter, Red Squirrel and lots of deer species instead.
