Not good to get Lyme disease at all. Glasdrum woods in Scotland, a renowned butterfly hotspot, is one of the worst places for ticks i have ever known....long trousers tucked into thick socks, long sleeves and no visible points of entry are key at places like this.

 Dave ... what a shame these ticks put a damper on the visits ... they get in the clothes as well : (

 good news indeed , John ... after that pest eradication programme things seem to be looking up and hopefully better in the years to come . They have to be vigilant though :yep: Watch out for the minks

Great news regarding the Puffins and Shags, John...especially after a few highly documented poor breeding seasons recently.

Now that is a happy wildlife news story Danny

Thanks for sharing the link, such colourful birds

Quite surprising that the last ones to breed were as far north as County Durham

A great success story and it would be fantastic if they managed to breed elsewhere in the future.

It would be amazing if they started breeding where I lived soon one day. I live in Sussex so the chances are quite good.

Bad news to hear that all three Wagtail sp are in decline. I have noticed that, over the past few years whilst holidaying in Norfolk, that my number of Yellow Wagtail sightings are definitely down on the amount i was seeing in the 1990's.

I saw one report on the DWT site regarding the Hen Harriers Danny and it really is fantastic news!. I was part of a group of volunteers for the RSPB in the late 1990's on Hen Harrier watch in the Peak District.....being able to see these birds nesting close up was one of the greatest experiences with breeding birds i have had.

Fingers crossed that this bird can be brought back from the brink of extinction as a breeding bird in England.

A great victory for wildlife in the Thames estuary area Danny and also for common sense!

It is about time they sorted out this raptor persecution issue out once and for all Danny, Hereford being yet another county to add to the list during recent months.

That experience with the Hen Harriers sounds amazing Dave. The problem with the Thames Estuary being turned down is that there looking at Gatwick expanding again, which is just down the road from where I live. To see the nature reserve and all that farmland between my house and the airport go is very sad and depressing. :( :notfair:
