That is a phenomenal amount of Spoonbill, Danny...must be an incredible sight. I don't think i have seen that many in one place before, even on my travels across parts of Europe.

Yet another highly invasive species to add to the list Danny, and ever increasing list and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible. One problem is though, in asking for sightings of the mussel, how many people would actually be able to tell which is which? the only safe way, to save transference and isolate any colonies found, would be to ask for photographs of any said mussel.

Good to hear that the RSPB is working hard to protect the Hen Harriers..........

Thanks for the links Danny

I'm suprised abut the Red Admiral I would've thought it would've been the Small Tortoiseshell or the Peacock

I read somewhere Paula that Small Tortoiseshells have had a very bad year and have suffered a decline recently otherwise that would have been my choice as well.

I can imagine that if the Red admiral count had carried on through September and October, the transitory migrants would have significantly altered the figures, slightly falsely as well, so a good idea to get a better picture by stopping the count in August.

Good news.

This should have been done years ago regarding the Hen harriers and it has been an issue for as long as i can remember. Gamekeepers driving grouse shoots have certainly not helped and it all boils down to the profitability for the land owner with little or no thought for the wildlife that needs that particular habitat to survive.

Good news , Danny ... the more areas the better . It might prevent companies taking the land for fracking ?

A good article , Dave .. i can see the reasons for the RSPB reporting on other species within their reserves

That's one good thing the RSPB do Jen and they keep a close eye on species levels at all of their reserves.
