:cool3: It's a great place , Dave and thanks for the link . I just wish the RSPB would keep shouting about it .. they have to keep on and on so that they're noticed and understood :soapbox:

It certainly is Jen. I donated quite a sum to the RSPB for their Hope Farm project when it was first announced many years ago (i still have the certificate somewhere) and i am always looking in to see what progress they are making.

Brilliant , Dave

If anyone does get the chance to buy the BBC Wildlife magazine for less than it's £3.99 ! ( i can buy it a month late for £1  ) There's always interesting news ..... lots about the Urban wild areas .. Ultimate Guide to in Novembers issue . It's quite amazing just how much can be found in and around the cities parks and private gardens . Liverpool's red squirrels on the up again after a drop of 80% in 2008 . Newcastle's kittiwakes and otters , foxes , badgers , marsh harriers , bitterns... too many to mention . Edinburgh and grey partridge ,hare's , loads of wildfowl . I wonder if John or Mick has mentioned the Water of Leith for a stroll ... and along the Firth . Sadly too much for me to mention here but it seems the Urban areas are soon to overtake the countryside ..

my connection went just now when replying to your link above , Dave

A fascinating conclusion from the research ..... 99% of birds manage to avoid the blades  do the others just fly straight into them .. bad eyesight . .. and if they're a rare species ? It's becoming so difficult these days to decide what should be permitted and what shouldn't but i'm glad there are still many people out there prepared to question the multi nationals ...... whether they'll get anywhere is another matter :yep:

That's the worry Jen but at least, as you say, questions are being raised.

I'll take a look at those links you posted a bit later on.

Days left to save one of the world’s rarest spiders from developers

To lose an entire species due to development would be utterly criminal Danny and there is no way, whatever the circumstances, that this should happen. Just because the general feeling towards losing a spider would be 'so what' but it is these small and 'insignificant' species that make up the backbone of our much larger and more recognisable species. You have to save the small to preserve the large.

i got this email from Greenpeace the other day......maybe you'd like to sign up

Hi John,

The rainforest is running out of time. Beautiful orangutans, sun bears and gibbons who live in Indonesia’s forests are threatened by a destructive paper company. And it’s bank-rolled by high street giant Santander.

Please sign the petition demanding Santander stop lending money for rainforest destruction: https://secure.greenpeace.org.uk/santander5

Thanks,
Richard
