Regarding the late autumnal colours....we can vouch for that and have hardly seen anything on our travels a yet. There was the odd tree looking autumnal at Allestree park yesterday but very little in comparison to this time last year.

thanks for those links Danny ........ perhaps those Special areas will help the doormice as well..... though i'm not sure how even these areas manage to survive as we know them if the climate changes too much

That little backpack seems a good idea for tracking .... i hope the little hog didn't mind the spine cut and that inch square box looks a little larger to me Posted Image......... and also seems to be weighing it down  poor little hog :cool3:

Those SPA's are vitally important to many species and especially those sea bird species under threat. This is why such areas as Bass Rock, Flamborough Head, Bempton Cliffs, South Stack, Farne Islands etc are critical in maintaining and monitoring sea bird populations.

Thanks for those links Danny and i'll take a look at some of the others later on.

Regarding the article on the Dormice.

There is absolutely no reason why we should be losing so many of our ancient woodlands, it is an utter disgrace to have so many under threat.

There's a little wood near me where there are loads of dormice, but there planning to build on it and haven't given the local wildlife agency that owns it time to evacuate them. This keeps on happening in my area. :soapbox: :notfair:

hi Danny ....... that's dreadful news . I've just tried to contact a friend of mine who is a doormouse watcher / guardian / box sighter .... but sadly she's not in .

I'm sure that proposal is against the law unless with this governments change of rules re planning for anything ...... it's now allowed . I'll keep asking but meanwhile maybe you can keep writing .

Sadly something similar happened here within the last week ... a field which was feed for cirl buntings has just been ploughed ... possibly by mistake :panic:

That is awful news Danny and i'm astonished about that field the Cirl Buntings use Jen. They are one of our rarest breeding birds and are confined to such a small area. I have been lucky enough to see Cirl Bunting at one of their strongholds, Wembury in Devon.

oh , maybe that's where it was , Dave ... it was in Devon and the RSPB and local DWT had been spending so much time looking after them . The young lady was in tears whilst speaking to the reporter : (

OK Danny ... a little further but awaiting a phone call to give me the phone number of a lady who does door mice and bats , runs courses County and Countrywide . Are you able to tell me the area in which this is happening in case it helps ?

Sounds like it could have been Wembury. There are other sites but i think they are kept closely guarded.

I've spoken to some contacts in the Sussex Wildlife Trust about this in the past, as well as several other organizations, but there's nothing they can do in reality to fight it. The problem is there is a lot of by "accidental" building on nature reserves around where I live. :soapbox: :notfair: :(

You know we really should set up a "Get On Your Soap Box" page. I think it would be a really big hit. :giggle:

Agreed Danny, nothing is safe in the natural world and we do take things for granted.
