Dave the second one I think (though not sure) was either dead or dying as it was chalky and loads on the floor broken up. I didnt actually touch it so could be wrong. There was a steep incline to the ground and I didnt fancy going there !! |

Thanks Dave. Forgot to say these egg like things are about 1-2mm. They are on a rotten felled tree from last year and I didnt expose them they are as is. Edited by carlos100, Mar 19 2011, 07:21 PM.

Sorry DJan. ....... not Jews Ear. It is one of the Cup fungi. I would say it could be Helvella acetabulum but can't say for sure without a lot more detail. |

Thanks Judy.I have looked the cups in Roger's Mushrooms and I think they are Peziza cerea as the habitat is on rotting sand bags and that is where they are! So that was very helpful

Yours Gill looks like a Coprinus type but can't narrow it down further at the moment. The first one of yours Carl could be a Sparassis sp and the second one looks like Piptoporus betulinus. |

Dave. If it is any help ... it was big. The cap was at least 2 inches in diameter and 3 inches high (that height doesn't include the stem which was about the same height again).
