Shaz -
Your previous post .. no 5 is Ganoderma adspersum
next post....
1 and 2 correct S.areolatum
3 Laccaria laccata

DJan - sorry I cant Id your bracket on the Beech tree from that photo. There are several that look similar from that distance.but as it is growing on Beech it is probably Ganoderma adspersum.

:thanx: Judy. I have a white mushroom on camera but I'll try Rogers Mushroom book first as white ones are notorious to ID.

Ok Djan, If you get stuck try and get a good closeup view of the gills, and a decent shot of the stem as well as the general view I should be able to do it no problem. They are not so difficult if you have those details to work on.

Jan, it looks like there is a ring on the stem which Volvariella do not have, though the photo is not really at the right angle to see it properly. I cant see if there is a Volva encasing the base of the stem. It is so dangerous to identify a fungus from a single view of the cap. You must look at the gills carefully and the stem. In some cases only a slight difference easily overlooked if you have not learned to look for it can make the difference between deadly poisonous and a good tasty meal.
There is no way I would identify that one as V. bombycina ( a choice edible) without seeing good photos of the whole length of the stem and a close up of the gills.

Found another ancient wood today.

Groton wood.

Only about 30 mins from my house.

Nothing about and was dry as dry can be.

Just found one spot where the sun seems to have missed and was wet.

So a few fungi to ID

5 Not enough detail, size? Probably too young for positive Id

8. Not enough detail, need size, stem and underside closeups.

 Paula, I think you are nearer the mark. It certainly looks like paint as you can see the moss through it.

The second one is a Hypoxylon species but I cant tell which from that photo i'm afraid.
The first doesn't give me much info to go on and is possibly too old and damaged to even know where to start. It really would help to id fungi if you could either measure when you take the photo or put a coin in the picture so we can get an idea of size. Also if you can ( use a stick to lift it if you dont want to touch it) get a second photo of the underside.
