Thanks Dave. I had a bit of help from a girl at work she said she thought it was a shag something. should have seen all the heads turn when she mentioned it in the middle of the office. It was so funny. They didn't have a clue what we were talking about.

I think your fungi in post 655 Stu could be a Pholiota sp.

Not sure on the second one Happyhare but i don't think it is a Hygrocybe type. The first one maybe Wood Blewit,Lepista sordida or Lepista saeva. All three can have a purplish cap and stem although Lepista saeva generally prefers field habitat. Was the first one more in woodland habitat? I actually forgot that Wood Blewit was a tricky species to id :doh:

Hi Marg.

Without taking a closer look i would say:

1. Hygrocybe coccinea - Scarlet Waxcap
2. Hygrocybe virginea - Snowy Waxcap
3. Hygrocybe ceracea - Butter Waxcap

To be 100% sure you would need gill shots but on previous experience i am reasonably confident on what i can see.
