Thank you Julie and Feedy They are odd but definitely are interesting - don't think I've really noticed anything like them before - my fungi blinkers are officially removed

A couple from yesterday - mixed woodland - birch, oak, some pine, some beech adjoining heathland. 1, 2 and 3 I think might be a Deathcap - it had a bit of a yellowish sheen to it which you can just make out. 4 5 ,6 I think might be a Destroying Angel and 7 I think might be Crested Coral

couple of things i saw today and yesterday what on earth is this is? it was like a mussel or similar glutinous thing at base, strange looking thing ![]() there were a lot of this fungi in one part, they looked like they had been charred ![]() saw these in a tightly packed conifer plantation, was dark in there so first pic had flash on, picked a more mature specimen and took it out to the pathway to snap. the green really was prominent, especially when in the forest, really stood out. stems were firm ![]()

Mick, I wonder whether that first one is an "ex-fungi", i.e the gelatinous bit was the cap now rotted and disintegrated and the white curly bit remaining is the stipe breaking down - just a thought

Hi Grayling Numbers 1,2 & 3 are Destroying Angel. Not sure what 4,5 & 6 are but with no volva and lack of bulbous base they are not an Amanita sp. I'll try and check on all the others tomorrow. |

Thanks Dave - for 4,5,6 I thought is was Destroying Angel as I was going by the look of the stipe, that kind of upward shaggy effect and the cap sometimes fringed with veil remnants and I read here that the volva is often quite deep in the soil - I'll dig deeper next time http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/amanita-virosa.php |

That's spot on Grayling and i had overlooked the volva in relation to it being deep in the ground. I will check it again tomorrow when my eyes aren't as tired an early start tomorrow as well and i will be sitting in one of the marsh hides at just after 6.30am

It normally produces some really good species Grayling (not wanting to tempt fate that is!) and i have seen in the past, four species of owl, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Osprey, Pallid Harrier(very rare though) , Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Red-backed Shrike, Barred and Yellow Browed Warbler (scarce) Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, Knot, Redshank along with numerous geese, gulls, warblers and woodland birds along with Muntjac Deer, Hare and Common Shrew....plenty of wildlife to see at all three hides. |
