Hi Ann. The weakly adnexed gills, almost free from the stem in fact, along with the non-fibrous stem which is usually a paler colour than the cap, all points to this being Scarlet Waxcap Hygrocybe coccinea Ann. A superb fungus and one of my favourites. |

Not at all Ann and i love trying to identify fungi, it's a great challenge and i love to come across new types. Spot on with Chicken Of The Woods. The Etymology of this fungus translates to 'Sulphur-yellow with Bright Pores' and it is at it's most colourful when young when the bands are tinged with deep pink and orange colours. They can turn out to be massive and grow in large clumps. This is some we saw at Fairhaven Water Gardens a few years ago. |

It can grow in massive clumps Ann and sometimes it can also overwinter to be seen the following year. |

I'll try and do these but i don't have all my guides with me so i might have to wait until i get back from Norfolk. Jen, That is Birch Bolete. Jane, I recognise the first one but can't put my finger on it yet. The second one could indeed be Tremella mesenterica but there are a couple of others that look close. Pam. Yes indeed, Wrinkled Peach it is. |
