We saw the New Year in in the camper van on our favourite site in Thetford Forest - we must be getting old, we were in bed by 10.30, and got grumpy at being woken up at midnight by fireworks!! However... As usual, I put a little bird feeding station where I could see and photograph it from the van, and I was thrilled with what visited it I didn't expect a nuthatch on a ground feeder, but in fact we had two!! ![]() This little one was very timid, so Lewis did really well to get this shot. I heard its call, and I'm pretty sure it was a willow tit! ![]() We also had blackbirds- ![]() Coal tits- ![]() A robin, who thought the feeder was for his own personal use and spent more time defending it against all comers than he did eating- ![]() And this cheeky so and so!

Sarah they're wonderful photos...great sightings ......I had a look at your Willow Tit and actually wondered if it was a Marsh Tit as I could see the very pale white spot on the upper mandible by the head....but I can't be certain as I'm certainly no expert......Dave will let you know for sure

Oo, OK - thankyou! I know the two species are difficult to tell apart, and it would be lovely to know exactly what it was! |

Yes, Ann, we have a Swift Carrera 2 based on a VW T4 - we've had it for about 3 years now, and it's one of the best things we've ever bought! What's yours? |

Mine's a Compass Navigator, also based on a T4 which I've had for seven years. I had a high top Transit camper before that. |

That's definitely the way to see wildlife....park up in almost any spot you like and use it as a mobile hide. |

Yes, it works surprisingly well, doesn't it? We spent this weekend visiting a relative in Southport, and went to the botanic gardens and to one of the marsh reserves. ![]() Rather pretty hybrid duck - they were only about two thirds the size of a mallard, but they had the loudest, shrillest quack I've ever heard!! ![]() With his/her brothers/sisters ![]() ![]() Stroppy cormorant! ![]() Feeding frenzy! Some of the ducks had hatched in the garden of a young couple who had walked them down to the gardens when they were old enough, and they bought grain for them every weekend. ![]() Just a pigeon. Rather pretty, though. ![]() "Form an orderly queue there - stop shoving..." ![]() Widgeon pair ![]() Teal ![]() And a solitary curlew! |
