Lewis and I went to Sculthorpe Moor reserve yesterday - we found out about it through the Nature of the Fens page on Facebook. I'm so glad we did - we saw siskins, which I haven't seen for years, bullfinches, which I have vague memories of seeing when I was a sprog - they were a lot more common then - and bramblings, which I have never seen before! Here are some of my photos:-

Some cracking photos there Sarah.

It's a great reserve and we have been visiting since we found out about the place about six or so years ago.

Were the Siskin on the feeders from behind the screen at the start of the trail, Sarah?

Thankyou!

Paula, I'd never seen one before either.

Dave, they were on one of the feeders that are dotted around the reserve, but there were several on the feeders behind the screen too - only I wasn't able to take photos there very easily because all the viewing slots were at the wrong height for me!! I need to grow a few inches...

I have always found those viewing slots are mostly the wrong height as well Sarah, they are either too low and you have to bend your back, or too high so that you are on tiptoes! most odd how they can't get at least one height right

Thankyou, Danny!

That's exactly what I found, Dave - although if I was the right height for my weight the top ones would probably be about right... :giggle:

Great sightings and shots, the bramblings look really shy, beautiful :)

As you know I got very excited to see my first bullfinch recently and we are now having a pair of siskins visiting the garden, no photo's yet as they are not sticking around long enough but they keep returning so ..... one day soon.

:thankyou2:

We had a very busy Sunday, but we managed to get a couple of hours in at Wicken Fen this morning - I'm so glad we did!

Lesser redpolls. I have only seen these once before! :yatta:
