Quite amazing isn't it!

I have seen some large Ermine-type moth webs and also, Brown-tail Moth can create similar webs but this one is extraordinary.

We've got John on the case now, so being a 'local' lad he's going to try and get through to see it.

Hopefully we'll get more info about it then

hi Laurie ,
I went through tonight and had a look . it is a really bizarre sight . the store has cordoned the hedge off to protect the caterpillars but you can get within a few feet . here's some pics ...Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
sorry I don't have any more info about it , like how long it took to build or how long it'll last .... :continue:

:thud: ..... I think Chris Packham has featured these on his various programmes . Often triggered by a weather phenomenon :cool4:

Thanks for the link , Laurie :cool3:

Thanks John for travelling to photograph it :cool3:

:wow2: what an awesome sight. I've certainly never seen anything like it before, not even on any nature programs I've watched.

Thanks for taking the time to travel there John and get us those photos.

Maybe we should contact the Springwatch team and see if they want to send someone here to do a report on it

I seem to be following you around, Laurie :peeps:
Perhaps this can be added to the Loch Ness Monster as a Scottish legend.

It's the larvae of an Yponomeuta sp (micro moth) one of a number that it could be including Apple Ermine or Cherry Ermine moth.
