Sadly though Laurie , another was poisoned up here a short time ago . Rarely any punishments for the culprits :impatient: The RSPB say they haven't enough evidence even though they boast of new technology to search for and catch those responsible

As John says, they seem to be spreading, Laurie. In a way their presence round here is a result of them being reintroduced to the area a few years ago.

That's terrible Jen and unfortunately they still get away with such heinous crimes.

That is wicked Jen. I it is probably quite easy to do with a bit of raw meat but I can't think why they should want to.

Poisoned meat is one of their favoured methods of carrying out this terrible act, Eric, but as you, i can't fathom out for the life of me why they would want to do such a thing, i understand the reasoning but can't fathom out the actual act of killing such magnificent birds.

I'm off to the family caravan this weekend in Dumfries and Galloway specifically to see a special rutting event at the red deer hide but I might go to the red kite feeding station at Bellymack farm. (http://www.gallowaykitetrail.com/item-38-bellymack-hill-farm-kite-feeding-station)

Even if I don't go to the farm I might just take the camera out anyway as they're in abundance around those parts. It's quite special seeing them up close in all of their glory.

Super photos Eric, especially the one with the moon and the one with the rainbow - very atmospheric.

We have started to get Red Kites over our garden but I find it impossible to get a decent shot. When driving to Reading we see quite a number and they swoop down very low.

Grayling, it is extremely difficult to get decent shots of red kites unless you go to some special feeding centre. My one or two successes have almost been flukes.

hi Tooj :wave2: me and the boys go to the big caravan park at Auchinlaire every year and I've always promised myself a visit to view the Red Kites ,so thanks for the link
if I can remember correctly , I'm sure a Kite flew over the park the last time we were there  some of the guys visited a Kite centre last weekend when they were down for a more "family" based stay .I'll have to ask if it was the same place :paul:
good luck with the rutting event ....you've given me an idea for my next "adventure" .I've been thinking of a return to Mull as I have a voucher for the White Tailed Eagle boat trip and there's Red Deer aplenty on the island ....another reason for a visit ;)

Glad that I've been of some help, I really can't recommend it highly enough. I didn't manage to get time to go to the feeding station this time, but I'd imagine that is probably where your friends went to. You can't fail to spot them when you're out and about around that area, you've probably seen loads without even realising.

I'm going back up for a week at the start of November so I'm already planning on going a bit deeper towards the north part of the forest as I've never done that before. One of the rangers at the deer park even mentioned that there's a couple of golden eagles in the forest, which are that monitored they even get the SAS out camping over night at certain times of year to keep an eye on them. :scope:

That trip to Mull sounds excellent, I'm going to have to get myself there at some point next year. (Only thing that keeps on putting me off is the drive!)

hi Tooj , my mate says that is the same place and even though they're not as in to nature as I am , they all enjoyed the visit . a couple of years ago when going to Auchinlairie my brother Vinnie and I drove down through the Galloway forest .we stopped a couple of times but only for minutes .it looks well worth exploring :hmm:
we had another drive in it earlier this Summer but that was following our pals in their car with a dodgy sat-nav and we couldn't turn 'round for miles !!! :Ha:

It is a heck of a drive Tooj but worth every mile in my opinion.
