Thanks for kind comments, Julie and Eric. To be fair to the London Bird Recorders - I had never submitted a record before so they were right to be cautious, notwithstanding that large reddish coloured raptors with forked tails are hard to misidentify!
My wife's sister lives at Bledlow, Eric, so we are often down that way. Kites seem almost as common as house sparrows there now!

We are often in Bledlow, Mike. It is a lovely village and we like the church. The churchyard looks lovely from snowdrop time through primrose to daffodil time. It is a very short drive from us. Occasionally Lord Carrington has opened the beautiful gardens of the Manor House under the RHS scheme. He must be very old now so perhaps he has given up. The last time I remember was in 2012 and I posted some photos in the "Parks and Gardens" section of the forum.

Hi Eric - yes, it's a bit off topic but here is the church - all it needs now is a Red Kite circling overhead! My sister-in-law lives almost opposite the entrance to Lord Carrington's Manor House.

Not a Red Kite, but this feather was on the lawn.

A nice looking feather Eric, not entirely sure from which bird though.

Dave, sorry my introduction was ambiguous, I think it is a Red Kite's feather. What I should have said was "not a Red Kite bird but a Red Kite's feather"
