Thank you Julie, The Woodpecker doesn't seem to scare as easily as the Tits who are off at the slightest movement. I looked out of the window this afternoon and tits were crowded onto the nuts, I counted six just on the peanuts but there may have been more because I couldn't see round the back

I have just been looking at the Whitethroat and Redpoll on Alan's feeders. Nothing as exotic as that here, just the same Tits, but lovely all the same.

The great spotted Woodpecker was back this morning. I was quite pleased with these shots so here he is again. My neighbour, Alan, says he sees a pair flying across the common frequently but I only see the male.

It is, Grayling, thanks.

Today I suspect a tragedy. We have a Wood Pigeon which sits for ages each day on top of our winter jasmine at the end of the deck.

There is no sign of him today but there was this telltale pile of feathers on the lawn. I fear something has caught him.

That's really sad Eric. It's certainly not looking good for a happy ending. If you don't see him on your Jasmine bush again then I think you can assume the worst

Not looking good at all Eric, looks like the work of a Sparrowhawk although there are other possibilities.

You are probably right, Dave. I don't know if you remember my photo of a Sparrowhawk in our garden in 2013
