Wonderful photos Eric. ![]() I'm very envious of your Green Woodpecker, you're so lucky having them in your garden. I hear the Green Woodpecker when I'm out and about, but very rarely have I seen any, let alone in my garden.

John, you have got me confused. I am studying my bird book closely and it shows the male with a black top to his head but a small red patch at the back. The female doesn't appear to have red on her head at all but the juvenile has a red top to it's head.![]() HELP!!! |

you're right enough ,Eric...looks like a juvenile bird ,according to the illustrations...we'll just have to wait to "sex" it 😁 |

Thanks Pam. The birds don't really need feeding in the summer months but I like watching them too much to stop. If I was more active I could observe them in the wild but I am too old for that. |

Brilliant photos Eric. ![]() I keep mine up all year too Eric, mainly because I think it helps the birds out a bit, especially when they have young to feed too. It's great seeing all of the fledged birds, which are mainly Goldfinches here. I don't put fat balls out because in the past they've all gone in a day with all of the Starlings that arrived every day. |

Thanks, Marg. Our fat balls disappear in a day too, I have taken to putting two in the container at a time rather than four. For some strange reason I haven't seen starlings round here for a long time. |
