We must have had a nest of long tailed tits because we had a feeding frenzy of juveniles with a blue tit trying to get a look in.

Then when there was some peace and quiet the Great Spotted Woodpecker returned.

Ann, I tried to count them as they were feeding and found it impossible because they kept moving around and changing places all the time.

Thanks Dave, the G S Woodpecker was back again early this morning but I didn't bother with my camera because I have caught him so many times before. I just watched him and was interested to see how choosy he was. He clung onto the mesh of the peanut feeder scrutinising the nuts before deciding exactly where to peck. Once he made the decision he stayed there a long time pecking away.

How lovely Eric , my LTTs seem to have disappeared but i'm sure they'll be back . I did stop buying the fat balls because of the mess they were making , perhaps that was a mistake .
Usually the GSWs are timid , yours sound nice and friendly

Thanks Julie and Jen,. The LTTits were all juveniles so there must have been a nest pretty close by. There is a lot of greenery near the fat balls which the birds keep darting in an out of so it could even have been as near as that.
