Thanks Tabatha, I'm lucky that I don't need to move out of the house to see these.

I wished I had a video camera today. There was a magpie trying desperately to get at the fat balls without success. It kept jumping up and trying to peck them when it got level with them without much success, then it tried to get it's head down from the top and then it couldn't reach.

Thanks everyone, they are really greedy birds. They often steal food I intended for other birds. They are really nervous of Red Kites, though, if any are about the magpies look warily up above them as they try to grab something and fly off with it.

Thanks Jean, I don't think we have a nest but I believe they do nest in the hawthorn thicket on the common opposite my bedroom window, I often see them perched on the top branches.

I love Hawthorn Eric.I planted a small Christmas fir tree for my grandson's first Christmas.
Not taking into consideration how big it would grow. 24 years later its now over 20ft so its a great
nesting tree.

Thanks Julie, The G S Woodpecker was back for some time while we were having breakfast. I didn't move to get my camera because I didn't want to scare him away.
