Lovely photos of the tits & dove Eric. I tried one of the squirrel proof fat ball feeders it worked but the birds didn`t go near it either

Looks like you've fooled the squirrel...for now! ![]() When I worked at Harewood House in Leeds I saw Red Kites daily. Loads of them there

Thanks everybody. Pam, I thinks the tits find the fat ball feeder more difficult. The balls last longer, but that may be because the squirrels aren't nibbling as well. |

Thanks, Jan. Jen, Red Kites are a very common sight in our sky but usually one or two at a time. |

Anthea wasn't very fond of those new squirrel proof feeders because of the shiny metal parts so today I moved them to a less conspicuous place at the side of the garden. They are further away from my office window so it does mean photos have to be cropped even more which is a bit of a disadvantage but I can see everything very well through my 50x binoculars. However, within just a few minutes, see who paid us a visit again! The light was poor unfortunately.![]() ![]() ![]() |

I can understand what Anthea means re the shiny ones Eric , i'd be the same ... but i think they dull down very quickly and you can probably help it on it's way some how . That's a great sighting again of the GSW . i was told they prefer a static holder , one lodged against a post or tree .. they're not always happy to swing around ...... but yours looks very at home

Jen, perhaps the shiny metal will tone down in time, but I think I am happy with them there, the birds seem to like them being by the hedge where they can pop in and out. While we were out yesterday some unfortunate bird flew into an upstairs window. I took a shot of the impression it left because it was so large. I have measured it and it represents a 32 inch wingspan. It seems too large for a pigeon but perhaps too small for a kite. Any ideas?

Great captures Eric. Could the imprint have been made by a Collared Dove? |

Lovely photos of your garden visitors Eric. I wondered if it was a Collared Dove but it looks quite a big imprint, they do seem to fly into windows a lotespecially when they get spooked by a bird of prey though ![]() It couldn't be an Owl could it! |

The only print i have on a window at the moment is of a wood pigeon , the centre of mine looks more podgy than yours Eric . Happily whatever yours was , it did fly off .......... well i hope so ? |

Thanks, Dave, Jan and Jen. I know the imprint a Woodpigeon makes and it is much smaller than that, It was the size of the wingspan that puzzled me. |
